if you have not heard Amy Winehouse, well, you are missing out on life.
Yes, i know she is not “Christian” but God blessed this chick with some chords!
Listen and enjoy!

You know What's Boring?

I have to get this off my chest. I usually don’t call out buddies or friends, but i can’t let this one slide.
So i will ask the question…Do you know what is boring? The answer is…Kyle!
That’s right. Kyle is boring. He doesn’t like good music, he has bad taste in clothes, and if you get close enough he has a distinct odor!
Wow, that feels much better.
peace!

You're Welcome

Shout Out to Chandler!

I went down to Village Church this past weekend. My wife, Mark and Kathryn (our lead worship guy and his wife) and I have been before and we wanted to go back and check it out again. It was a great time. I listen to matt’s podcast every week, and i must admit, that i have been known to steal his sermons and not give him credit. I love his heart, and the heart of the Village. He is very interested in NOT playing “the game.” You know…the game…the, i’m bigger, badder, “spiritualer” than you!
He is always talking about the importance of church and church people not focusing on themselves and reaching the city and community they are in. He was not actually there. Bummer. BUT, he has this huge screen that has him preaching the sermon from an earlier service. It was life size and i found that it didn’t bother me as much as i thot it would. It was like he was really there. Pretty cool…especially from a guy that doesn’t like video services.
He talked about the parable of the talents and it was sweet! He said the parable is about what we are doing with the opportunities God is bringing to us through our natural abilities. Are we spending our God-given abilities on ourselves or on others who need Jesus?!? Great thought! Great sermon, very challenging.
If you ever have a chance to listen or visit the Village do your self a favor and do it! It is worth it.
Love and Shalom!

Meaningless!

Everything under the sun is meaningless!!!
This is Solomon’s chipper little intro to his “uplifting” book known as Ecclesiastes. If you have not read it before…well, let me just say it is one of the most misunderstood books of the Bible. It’s filled with Solomon’s “research” and discoveries of a lifetime of trying to figure out what life is all about.
He doesn’t waste any time telling us what he has discovered. Life – everything under the sun- is completely meaningless. You kinda feel like having him over and giving him a hug! He shares that he has lived “high on the hog” and that he has “slummed it up” (if you will) and he discovers about both approaches…wait for it…yep, you guessed it – meaningless!
As we look at our own lives – as i look at my life – i have many of the same feelings. I love my life, but most of the things i do or want are geared to help me not be bored. If most of us were honest (and i’m not foolish enough to think we are) we would have to admit that we try to fill our lives with stuff so that we can escape the monotony of life. Solomon is right. Most of what we do or buy is an attempt to escape or to find something new “under the sun.”
But, before you decide to load the gun or get a new rope, let me just say Solomon is trying to teach us one of the greatest lessons ever taught in the Bible…everything UNDER the sun IS meaningless. He is saying we should live BEYOND the sun! Our 5 senses are not what it’s all about. Those of us who follow Christ have a 6th sense. It is called FAITH, TRUST, BELIEF, in the One, True, Living God! When we tap into Faith then our lives have found meaning and purpose.
Everything we are doing UNDER the sun will die and fade and not matter. BEYOND the sun we find purpose, meaning, destiny, freedom and true life!
May we be the ones who seek everything that can be done BEYOND the sun.
