Isaiah 58

This past week i spoke about our new building project on Sunday. i personally hated the talk…but that’s just me…or maybe it’s not…but, i digress. We talked about how we need to buy into what God is doing at theedge and how it takes all of us doing our part to build the Kingdom of God on earth – as it is in Heaven.
In Isaiah 58.6-10 God tells us what He expects from His disciples (students). He says in verse 10, “…and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your night will become like the noonday.”
That is amazing! If we spend ourselves on behalf of those who are hurting and in need, then God will take care of us! So many Christians today are only worried about themselves. They only think about their own comfort, their own needs and their own selfish desires. What we don’t get is that God is in us, so He can get through us to others. When we love the way God loves, and we care about others the way He cares about others…THEN He can take care of our needs.
I hope we will take Isaiah 58 to heart. I pray that we will be the kind of followers of Christ that will spend ourselves on others. The same way Christ broke Himself and poured Himself out for us…may we be broken and poured out for others!

LOVE.LOVE.SERVE.

No, i am not talking about tennis. Love.Love.Serve. is our focus here at theedge. We believe that we are to Love God with everything in us – then Love others the way God loves them – and Serve everyone in every opportunity God puts us in.
It’s simple, but it’s complex.
At theedge we always talk about how church should be for others…figurously, and intentionally about others. Bonhoffer said that the church “is really not the church until it exists for others.” I love that. I love how he says “exists” for others. Not, until it is aware of others, or recognizes there are others…he says when we “exist” for others. The very purpose of church – any church – should be to love the community Jesus has called you to.
Too many times churches terminate on themselves. I mean they only think of themselves and how they can make their own thing work and grow. Very little time is spent thinking about the others in the community and city.
At theedge we strive to be “other-focused.” We are not perfect, but it is something we think about and talk about all the time. When all of our people here are outwardly focused then we know theedge truly exists in the city!
